Description

Kabuki acteur Kawarasaki Gonjurô in de rol van de boef Tateba no Taheji. De rook op de achtergrond is afkomstig van de vuren die dragers op rustplaatsen (tateba) maakten om muggen te verjagen en verwijst dus naar de naam van de gespeelde boef: Tateba no Taheji. Scene uit het toneelstuk Shôbu awase adauchi kôdan, Gappo ga tsuji mono, voor het eerst opgevoerd in het Ichimura theater in mei 1810.
