Explanatory note

De prent illustreert een fabel getiteld 'The Elephant and the Bookseller' uit de fabelen van John Gay, voor het eerst uitgegeven in 1727 met illustraties naar William Kent. Deze prent is waarschijnlijk gebruikt als boekillustratie in een latere editie.
