A Dutch Academy, Thomas Rowlandson, 1792
In a rustic barn, a group of artists draw or paint a female nude. The setting of this art academy is anything but classical, and the students could have been lifted from a Dutch peasant tavern scene. The scowling model is posed rather crudely, with only a scrap of cloth between her spread legs. Her physique conforms to a type familiar from the works of Rembrandt and Rubens.
