In 1897, Henri Boutet – nicknamed the Master of the Corset – published an album of lithographs depicting female models, more often naked than draped, posing in artists’ studios. This image, probably intended as a frontispiece for the series, interestingly portrays the model’s relationship with art, in which she is both object and subject.
