Title Page and Eleven Prints of Flowers, Plants, and Fruit, Crispijn van de Passe (I) (attributed to), after Crispijn van de Passe (I), 1600 - 1604
These twelve sheets are proof impressions for a series of 61 prints with illustrations of flowers, plants, and fruit, combined with small depictions of animals. The plants are rendered with great botanical accuracy. Generally a utilitarian plant is set next to an ornamental one cultivated for its beauty. The title Cognoscite lilia agri refers to the words spoken by Jesus: ‘Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow’.
