This portrait was created for a book featuring all the participants present during the negotiations for the Peace of Münster (the end of the 80 Years’ War). Duke August is portrayed here in armour, displaying a martial bearing, although he was known as the most learned prince of his time. The decoration around the oval portrait reference his noble status and the prosperity enjoyed by his principality
