Portrait of Maria de’ Medici with Family Tree, Lucas Vorsterman (I), after Nicolaas van der Horst, after Peter Paul Rubens, 1619 - 1632
Sometimes several printmakers joined forces to create a portrait print. In the case of this one of Maria de’ Medici, Lucas Vorsterman engraved the central portrait of the ruler with extreme finesse. Comparatively more coarsely executed, the family tree and the personifications of Fame and Wealth are most likely the work of an engraver from Cornelis Galle’s workshop.
