In this manifesto, Constant outlines a future metropolis built up of various sectors. Assuming a central position therein is homo ludens (man the player), who is freed from the need to work. In the various sectors of New Babylon, man leads a nomadic existence, in which he can take full advantage of his creativity. As an experimental ‘anti-functional city’, the New Babylon project represents an alternative to the post-war order.
