Drawbridge, Ger Gerrits, 1946
The title Wipbrug refers to a particular type of drawbridge, an abstracted depiction of which Gerrits made here. In the middle, its construction can be recognized in the white vertical beams and the horizontal girder that can raise a section of the bridge so that boats can pass through. ‘Wipbrug’ is also the name of a specific moveable bridge from 1925 that spans the Zwanekesloot in Amsterdam-Noord.
