Composition, Daan van Golden, c. 1974 - c. 1977
During a stay in Japan in 1962–65, Daan van Golden began making meticulous painted copies of printed and woven patterns. These patterns kept recurring throughout his life, always slightly different, in another colour or as an enlarged detail, painted, photographed or printed again. The endless reproduction, including of found images such as the postcard here, became an inexhaustible source of new compositions.
