Twenty Different Pieces of Jewellery, anonymous, 1799

engraving, h 199mm × w 121mm More details

This fashion plate features twenty different pieces of jewellery. While materials are not mentioned some of the adornments may have been executed in steel. Steel jewellery, shoe buckles, and chatelaines were popular at the royal court as well as among the common people, for both men and women. However, satirical prints of the period express complaints that steel glared so fiercely in the sunlight.
