Description

Portret van de actrice Mrs Ann Barry (1734-1801) in de rol van Sophonisba tijdens Act V, Scene 7, in het theaterstuk Sophonisba. Zij draagt een japon met lange mouwen, rijkelijk versierd met hermelijn(?) en kwasten. Op het hoge kapsel een kroon, versierd met veren en een sluier met strikken. In de rechterhand de gifbeker. The Tragedy of Sophonisba is een treurspel geschreven in 1730 door de dichter James Thomson (1700-1748). De prent is uitgegeven op 1 juni 1778.
