Compression, Ben Joosten, 2009
Like his great model Hendrik Werkman, the sculptor, bronze caster and graphic artist Ben Joosten made prints utilizing printing and typographical material. In this case he used metal strips that set the spacing between the lines. In a printed text the strips are only ‘visible’ as white linear spaces. In this composition they are compressed, inked and printed on top of each other, forming a hallucinatory, rhythmic interplay of lines.
