Ryusai Shinsen was a follower of Hokusai, despite his name, which suggests indebtedness to Ryuryukyo Shinsai.
A group of children’s toys comprising a cloth monkey puppet, flowers and slips of decorated paper.
This print is a picture calendar, egoyomi, for the New Monkey Year 1800, the numerals for the long months, 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9 and 11, visible on the flower at far left.
