Old Man with a Flowing Beard, Fur Cap and Velvet Cloak, Rembrandt van Rijn, c. 1631

etching, h 149mm × w 130mm More details

The large format of these prints enabled Rembrandt to devote more attention to the men’s costumes. They wear fur caps, a turban and oriental clothing, as is often the case in 17th-century tronies. His models are two different men: one with a short beard and the other with a flowing one. Both, incidentally, have been thought to be Rembrandt’s father.
