A Blind Hurdy-gurdy Player and his Family, Rembrandt van Rijn, 1648
Music echoes in all of these street scenes. Three prints show a hurdy-gurdy player accompanied by his family or followed by a crush of children going door to door to play a tune and ask for alms. Often these musicians were blind and hence had a guide dog, as seen in the print at the upper left. There the child in the doorway beams with delight.
