Landscape with Sportsman and Dogs (‘Het jagertje’), Rembrandt van Rijn, c. 1648
Something odd is going on here. The village in this Dutch landscape is Diemen; however, Rembrandt sets it at the foot of an imaginary mountain range. A hunter, accompanied by his two hounds, walks along the path, with his back to the mountains. He has a long stick slung over his shoulder with which to poke hares from their burrows. No catch is visible; the hunt has probably yet to begin.
