The Dutch were not the only foreigners in Nagasaki. There was also a large trading settlement of Chinese merchants as well as a Korean community. This image portrays an unidentified Korean man. It is included in Philipp Franz von Siebold’s book Nippon. He was a German doctor in service to the Dutch who stayed on Deshima and described Japan and its culture in this book.
