Portrait of the collector Andrea Odoni, Cornelis Visscher (II), after Lorenzo Lotto, 1638 - 1658
In Lotto’s 1527 portrait of Andrea Odoni – here in a print by the Amsterdam engraver Cornelis Visser – the Venetian art collector is surrounded by fragments of antique sculptures. Odoni also owned scaled down sculptors’ models and sketches, which had been highly prized collectors’ items since the 16th century.
