Explanatory note

De prent maakt deel uit van een negendelige serie met ceremoniële kledij van de Engelse adel. De prent (1e staat) werd als onderdeel van bovengenoemde serie mogelijk door Thomas Jenner opgenomen onder de titel "The Creation Robes of the Nobility in 9-Plates' in zijn 'A Catalogue of Severall Bookes', 1662. Hollar werkte naar ontwerpen uit Richard Glover's 'Nobilitas politica vel civilis', Londen, 1608.
