Old Fiddler, Adriaen Matham, 1620 - 1660
engraving, h 210mm × w 170mm More details
This man looks like a bedraggled violinist, but is actually an old greybeard boasting of his erotic skills. The caption points out the tight strings of his violin and alludes to his intact manhood and ends with the sentence that it is still best when he is with Aaltje, a woman. The bagpipe on his back can be read as a reference to the male genitals.
