For the pandits (scholars from the Hindu community of Kashmir and one of the indigenous peoples of that area), this is an emotionally charged image. This ancient temple, probably dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, attracted many photographers at the time. However, due to border tensions after the partition of British India, the area is today guarded by the military and therefore very difficult for the people to access.
