Mrs. Brown Potter, Adolphe Gayne de Meyer, 1908
Adolf De Meyer is generally considered to be the first true fashion photographer. From 1913 on he photographed for Vogue, from 1922 for Harper’s Bazaar. He had already earlier been active as a portrait photographer. An enchanting beauty characterizes all of his photographs. The misty blurring and subtle illumination are key ‘ingredients’ of his style, of which this portrait from 1908 is a fine example.
