Bergsma Family Photo Album, anonymous, 1914 - 1926
gelatin silver print, h 187mm × w 235mm More details
It was common for a European family in the colony to have servants, who appear, often without a name, in their photo albums. This is the case of the Dutch Bergsma family living in Sumatra. The compiler of the album did not write the names in the top photo, instead noting ‘cook,’ boy,’ ‘nanny’ and ‘water carrier.’
