‘The nude must be reconsidered’, Ed van der Elsken, 1969 - 1971
In 1969 Van der Elsken published two photographs of a nude woman with letters and numbers in the magazine Bijster. By doing so he parodied the practice of indicating the different parts and the ‘correct build’ of cows in drawings. He thus ridiculed our ideas about how women are looked at. He ultimately replaced the photograph of the woman facing front with a variant.
