Still Life with Apples, Richard Tepe, c. 1920
Five apples in a row, unpeeled and partially peeled, afford charming and modest still lifes. Richard Tepe made his name as a nature and bird photographer in the Netherlands in the early 20th century. Among others, Tepe worked with the well-known writer and conservationist Jac. P. Thijsse. His photos appeared in the popular weekly magazine Buiten, which covered nature, landscape and cultural history in the Netherlands.
