Construction of the Viaur Viaduct, anonymous, 1900
Photographs taken solely for the purpose of registering the progress of a construction project can acquire great beauty separate from their original purpose. This is the case with this photograph of the construction of a viaduct over the Viaur River in the south of France. The identity of the photographer is unknown, but he must have been engaged by the Paris Societé de Construction des Battignolles, the contractor.
