Wási, Pikin Slee, Viviane Sassen, 2013
In 2013, Viviane Sassen photographed the remote village of Pikin Slee in Suriname. There she witnessed the juxtaposition of traditional ways of life intertwined with modern objects, such as cell phones and plastic utensils. With her distinctive use of colour, she associated beauty with alienation. In Pikin Slee she was particularly struck by the beauty of everyday life.
