Leon Levinstein was one of the most obsessive and intractable photographers of his time: he ceaselessly combed the streets in search of suitable motifs. Although people were Levinstein’s primary subject, it is difficult to pinpoint what interested him exactly. He did not plan ahead, but worked intuitively. He simply photographed what caught his eye, regardless of who or what it was.
