Man Ray is rightly considered one of the most inventive and influential photographers of the 20th century. In addition to his own work, he worked on commission, taking many portrait, fashion, and advertising photographs. In 1931 he made a portfolio with ten photogravures propagating the use of new domestic electrical appliances for CPDE, the Paris electricity company. It is one of the finest examples of early advertising photography.
