ferrotyping, h 85mm × w 59mm More details

Ferrotypes, an early form of photography, were relatively cheap, easy, and quick to make. It allowed a larger group of people to be portrayed. The fact that there was no need for negatives – like polaroids – meant that a tintype was relatively safe for LGBTI+ couples. Little, however, is known of any of these couples. Whether they are in love, or family, or friends – we just don’t know, yet their poses often reveal a sense of intimacy.
