Portrait of Andreas Mülbracht and his Wife Dorothea Catharina Machtelde Mülbracht-Lax te Goch, Carl Rensing (attributed to), c. 1845 - c. 1860
This portrait exhibits the magical power of daguerreotypy. The photograph of the elderly couple is pinpointsharp and exceptionally realistic. Such an image must have had a great impact on the beholders. The texture of the skin, with its wrinkles and irregularities, was captured in detail. Rensing’s work was displayed at the first photography show in Amsterdam in 1855. He established himself as a portrait photographer in the Dutch capital.
