Copper test model of an iron buoy.
The buoy is made of plates, bolted together. It has a conical body with a pointed lower end and a round top; below the waterline, it has a vertical keel offset to one side. The eye bolt at the lower end is broken.
Anthony Cornelis Twent, inspector general for pilotage at the time, ordered this model to help him establish the floating ability of his design.1
