Model of a 30-pounder gun and carriage on a ship’s deck, with a gun port.
The wooden gun, painted black, is 55 cm long and has a 32 mm calibre. It has a sight at the second reinforcement, the button is flat at the back and has a breeching ring. The carriage, narrowing to the front, consists of two cheeks with four steps, connected by an inclined transom, a breast piece with hinged outer part, and the axletrees, which are connected by the stool bed. The quoin is missing. The double wooden trucks are equal in size. The base represents part of the deck with a gun port; the ship’s side has diagonal trusses and brass knees. From the base, a beam with a ring can be pulled out, to which the tackle can be attached for pulling the gun back. Among the accessories are four rounds of canister and five of ball.
The model represents a short iron 30-pounder on a 44-gun frigate. It was ordered on 17 April 1837 from the Flushing Navy dockyard.2 On 16 June 1838 it was added to the Navy Model Room.3
