Polychromed wooden model of a gun and carriage.
The wooden barrel is painted black, red and white. It is 49 cm long and has a 21 mm calibre. The neck of the button is very long and has a percussion lock mounted on it with a brace. The head of the hammer has a U-shaped striking surface, which strikes around the vent, preventing the flame coming out of the vent by throwing the hammer back. The hammer turns in a forked post on the button, which has a tumbler underneath the hammer with a lanyard going through a sheave. The carriage is painted green and is trapezoidal in plan. The cheeks, with three steps and an ellipsoidal cutaway below, are held together by an inclined transom and the axletrees. The stool bed connects the hind and fore axletrees. The carriage has a horizontal breast piece with a hinged outer part; the quoin and stool are missing. The wooden trucks are double and are equal in size.
The gun is probably a 12 pounder. None of the archival records refer to this particular model. The percussion lock is a prototype; percussion locks were tested in the Netherlands from 1835 onwards.
Scale (estimate) 1:6.
