Construction model of a four-wheeled cart. The front wheels are steerable. The cart has no floor but is equipped with a windlass fore and aft, of which several lever arms are missing.
Jochem Pietersz Asmus (1755-1837) observed this type of cart during his voyage to France in 1797, where it was used for the transportation of cannon, anchors and other heavy loads between Versailles and Paris.2 He mentions the model as part of the model collection of the Amsterdam Navy dockyard in 1801.3
