Construction model of an apparatus for testing the strength of rope, incomplete: the base and various parts are missing. It consists of a frame with a gear train with a ratio of 12.25 to 1 with a threaded end to one side and a hydraulic pump at the other. The rope is tied between the threaded end and the pump and tightened with a gear train. The pump is a cylinder with a piston with an outlet on top. Next to the outlet a lever arm is mounted; glue marks on the opposite side indicate that something was once fitted there too.
Due to a lack of historical information beyond Obreen’s scant description, only a title has been provided, we can only speculate about what the missing part could be: possibly, it was either a pumping mechanism or a pressure indicator.
