Model of an anchor release gear mounted on a base.
The gear consists of a slide for the chain, of which one section can be lowered so that the horizontal chain links can not pass. This section can be lifted with a tumbler underneath the slide operated with a lever on the side, thus releasing the chain. This particular release was situated above the cable well, possibly made by a hole leading through to the deck.
Scale (according to Obreen)1 1:5.
