Model of a wood kiln or steaming box for bending planks, mounted on a wooden base.
The model consists of a long box with a door at either end, reinforced with ribs over the entire length and standing on two beams. A round hole in the base suggests that the model is incomplete: the hole was probably used to mount a boiler.
A kiln of this kind was observed by the Italian engineer Andrea Salvini during his visit to Holland in 1808.1 A similar model of a wood kiln is in the collection of the Musée national de la Marine in Paris.2 This model shows a wood kiln with a single level.3
