Explanatory note

Deze eresabels werden door stadhouder Willem V uitgereikt in Den Haag op 30 november 1781 aan elke commandant van het Nederlands eskader dat op 5 augustus 1781 bij Doggersbank tegen de Britse vloot vocht. In totaal zijn er ongeveer 17 sabels uitgereikt. Deze eresabel is vermoedelijk dat van kapitein Guillaume van Harecarspel Dekker (1743-1783), commandant van het fregat Bellona van 36 stukken.
