Brass model of the lighthouse on Padang Island (Poeloe Pandan) near Sumatra, mounted on a wooden pedestal.
The model is closed and twelve-sided, has a door and thirty windows. Above and below the door the inscriptions are placed. Part of the wall near the base is left out to show the two lower storeys with stairs and with a column in the centre. The top has a dome-shaped roof with a weathervane shaped as an arrow.
The 63 metres tall Poeloe Pandan lighthouse was built by the Nederlandsche Stoomboot Maatschappij Fijenoord in Rotterdam in 1879 and was made entirely of cast iron. Cast iron lighthouses for the Dutch East Indies were shipped in parts from the Netherlands to be assembled on the spot.
Scale (estimate) approx. 1:40.
