Wooden construction model of part of the side of a ship with armour plating, mounted on a base.
The model is now incomplete. Only one of the eight armour plates has been recovered. It stands on the gunwale with two pins and has a support at the back to keep it upright. The model has a deck at mid-height with a gun port flanked by a railing with hammock netting on the inside.
The armour plates demonstrated by the model were used during action to protect the gun crew against rifle fire. They were used on screw steamers 4th class and gunboats. The ones mounted on the gunwale were 7 millimetre thick and weighed 14 pounds, the plates for the gun ports weighed 20 pounds.
Scale (according to Obreen)1 1:20.
