Construction model of a composite hanging knee. The model can be taken apart and consists of five parts: the bearer, the sidepiece and the inner corner are dovetailed together; the whole is strengthened on either side with two arched iron strips (one is missing). On two sides scales have been depicted, one in French feet and one with metric dimensions.
In 1812, the French Constructor-General Jacques-Noël Sané (1740-1831) had this model sent from Antwerp to the Dutch Constructor-General Pieter Glavimans (1755-1820) as an example of how French knees were constructed.1
Scale (on model) 1:12.5.
