‘Socialism is culture’ manifestation, Iris de Leeuw, 1966 - 1967
With its ‘Socialism is culture’ manifestation in 1967, Luuks Laboratorium was challenging the political order. This public conference was a provocation to the Dutch Labour Party by Luuks artists and Labour Party youth. They maintained that artists should be trained to become the designers of a playful society. Their rallying cry ‘Art is effect, not object,’ was publicised by a poster distributed shortly before the manifestation took place.
