Pair of flintlock pistols, anonymous, 1645 - 1650

relief (sculpture technique), l 71.6cm More details

These two flintlock pistols have exceptionally long barrels. Their fine decoration is characteristic of a group of arms produced around 1650 in the region between Maastricht, Liège and Sedan. The lockplates (on the side of the pistols) are decorated with a Classical scene featuring the wine god Bacchus. The cock is in the form of a snake with a coiled tail.
