Explanatory note

J. G. Sinia was KNIL-officier, auteur en kunstenaar. Hij bezocht de buitenposten van Nederlands-Indië in de eerste jaren van de 20e eeuw. In april 1908 wordt Sinia overgeplaatst naar Zuidwest-Celebes. Hij wordt hier als militair en civiel gezaghebber aangesteld in het bebied Soppeng. Op 12 oktober 1909 keert hij terug naar Nederland.
