These protest signs were hung from a road bridge in 1985. They called on passers-by to sign a petition opposing the deployment of cruise missiles in the Netherlands. The widespread resistance to nuclear weapons earned the Netherlands global recognition as a pioneer in the peace movement and as a recalcitrant NATO ally. The logo chosen by the Kommitee Kruisrakketten Nee (No Cruise Missiles Committee) featured figures wearing clogs playfully kicking a cruise missile created by the cartoonist Opland.
