Shoulder-Length, Curled, and Powdered Allonge Wig, anonymous, c. 1700 - c. 1720
For many decades from the late 17th century on, it was fashionable for men of the elite to wear a wig to always show a full head of hair regardless of age. This wig is a rare and early example, with high fronts and cascading curls at the sides and back. The wig’s owner would have had it powdered almost entirely white before going out.
