This lock plate was once the most decorative element on a travelling chest. On the hasp is the figure of a woman carrying a shell laden with fruits on her head. She symbolizes Abundance. Flanking the hasp are trophies of armour and two seated female figures. Some ten examples of such richly decorated lock plates are known, most bearing the escutcheons of leading Italian families.
