Delft faience tray, with Chinese figures on a terrace, anonymous, c. 1730 - c. 1760
Though Delftware is world famous for its blue-and-white wares, the city also produced multi-coloured objects such as this tea tray. This festive composition of a group enjoying tea was based on the print displayed nearby. The anonymous painter transposed Schenk’s design with vibrant emerald and tangerine petit feu decorations, a process that requires three separate kiln firings.
